Fosdick & Hilmer provided M/E/P/FP systems design for this 190,000 square foot renovation and addition to the existing Tangeman University Center at the University of Cincinnati. The new student union incorporates student recreation and study areas, fast-food restaurants, a campus catering kitchen, the university bookstore, a large auditorium, as well as offices and other support spaces.

The existing building was selectively demolished and the portions that remain were reduced to slab, structural elements, and one exterior wall before being reconfigured and expanded. The new building  envelops Tangeman Hall while retaining the historic facade facing McMicken Hall and preserving the cupola atop a clear, glass-like roof.

The M/E/P/FP systems were all replaced and a new 1,000-seat Great Hall was opened near the bookstore. The lower levels of the Tangeman Student Union includes a 250-seat theater/classroom, additional retail space, game rooms and a 400- to 600-seat food court that offer pizza, burgers, ethnic food and popular fare. The upper floors accommodate meeting rooms, study lounges and a place for large groups to gather.
