Meet our team
Jim Pretz, P.E. – Managing Principal/CEO
As the Managing Principal at Fosdick & Hilmer, Jim sets the tone for innovation and the corporate culture of team collaboration. Joining the firm in 1976, Jim’s particular expertise is in planning and conceptualizing the mechanical and electrical systems for high technology buildings, such as hospitals, laboratories, datacenters, and campuses. He has performed numerous facility and utility master plans and renovation plans that have enabled his client institutions to expand and modify their facilities for many years without unanticipated delay or expense.
Joel Grubbs, P.E. – Senior Vice President
Joel is Fosdick & Hilmer’s Principal-In-Charge of the Central Plant Mechanical Group and the Controls & Automation Division. Joel has broad experience as a project manager and engineer on central plant mechanical and electrical systems and instrumentation and control system projects. Prior to Fosdick & Hilmer, he had 12 years of experience managing, designing and implementing projects within industrial/manufacturing and electric utility environments.
Richard Saunders, LEED AP – Vice President
Richard’s expertise includes project management, commissioning, and LEED consultation of larger facility construction and renovation projects, as well as the design of all facility systems. Richard’s career at Fosdick & Hilmer has found him engineering mechanical, plumbing, and power systems; performing condition assessments, studies, and master plans for medical centers and universities; and managing major design and construction projects. He further assists his clients by developing, updating, and maintaining flow and single line diagrams and by providing consultation with regard to operations and efficiency improvements. Richard has been at Fosdick & Hilmer since 1991.
Eric Erpenbeck, P.E. – Mechanical Engineering Manager & Head of Central Utilities Group
Eric joined Fosdick & Hilmer in 2000, and is now the Manager of Mechanical Engineering as well as the Lead Engineer within the Central Utilities Group. Eric is an expert in the design and analysis of central heating and cooling plants and distribution systems. During his time with the firm, Eric has been the project manager for numerous central plant and distribution projects including steam and chilled water plants, combined heat and power systems, fuel oil storage, and integrated HVAC systems.
Tom Crompton, P.E. – Head of HVAC Group
Starting his career with Fosdick & Hilmer in 1993, Tom is now Manager of the Mechanical Facilities Group. An expert in the design and analysis of complex HVAC and mechanical systems, Tom has successfully completed many projects in diverse applications such as healthcare, industrial, commercial, military, and institutional facilities. Tom has been a project manager on many multi-discipline engineering teams and has successfully led mechanical engineers through numerous projects on a broad spectrum of facility types.
John McCoy, P.E. – Controls Engineering Manager
As Manager and Lead Engineer in the Controls Engineering & Integration Group, John is responsible for complex logic and sequence development for Programmable Logic Controller (PLCs) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications. John’s broad range of experience includes the design of control panels; the development of wiring diagrams, software, and functional specifications; and system installation and start-up.
Gerry Donahue, P.E. – Head of Electrical Engineering Group
Gerry is the Head of the Electrical Engineering Group with extensive experience in engineering the full spectrum of electrical systems. Gerry’s capabilities include the engineering, start-up, and commissioning of high, medium, and low voltage substations and distribution systems, as well as the execution of power system studies. Prior to joining Fosdick & Hilmer, Gerry worked as a designer and field service engineer.
